Spirit Halloween - Baton Rouge’s Best Halloween Store
Unleash your Halloween enthusiasm by kicking off the “spooky season” early this year. Take your grandchildren to a Halloween store to get an early jump on costumes and decorations. We recommend Spirit Halloween, located next to Best Buy on Bluebonnet Boulevard. Remember, picking a costume is not just about looking creepy; it’s also an opportunity for self-expression and expanding your comfort zone. This is a valuable lesson to teach the little ones as they search for their costume this year.
Pumpkin Patch and Carving
Make a bet with your grandchildren that they can’t beat you in a jack-o’-lantern carving contest. Pumpkin carving is a frightfully fun way to tap into the tradition and spirit of Halloween with the grandchildren. But first, you must hand-pick your very own pumpkin at one of the many patches in greater Baton Rouge. Here is a list of the best pumpkin patches in Southeast Louisiana. Most pumpkin patches also have a corn maze, which is a challenging and fun way to spend time outside in the cool autumn weather with your grandchildren.
Have a Custom Contest With The Whole Family
Now that you have picked out your Halloween costume (see above), it’s time to have a little fun before heading off to trick-or-treat. We suggest having a costume contest with the whole family. Three generations, outfitted head to toe, will surely make captivating and laughable memories for years. You will need several judges… perhaps some of the neighborhood children could volunteer?
Experience a Baton Rouge Halloween Parade
One of the most anticipated annual fall events in Baton Rouge is the Fifolet Halloween Parade. Held downtown, this fantastic community event features floats, live music, costume contests, vendors, and a market. Ensure the little ones bring a bag or bucket because, throughout the parade, candy is tossed from the floats. Follow the parade as it weaves through the old, historic Baton Rouge streets. This is an event you and the grandchildren won’t want to miss!
Take Them To A Haunted House
Haunted houses are not for the easily frightened, nor if you have little kids. However, if your grandchildren are ultra courageous or just teenagers, then the allure of a haunted house cannot be denied. We recommend checking out the 13th Gate Escape Room on Phillips Street in downtown Baton Rouge. This 40,000-square-foot haunted house screams with terror and excitement. Around every dark corner is something terrifying waiting to send shivers up your spine, from live snakes, zombies, and Hollywood special effects.
Watch a Horror Classic
You can’t experience Halloween without watching at least one horror film. Certain theaters across Baton Rouge play classic horror films for a limited time every year, bringing us back to childhood with movies like Beetlejuice, The Shining, Night of The Living Dead, etc. Kids these days don’t go to the theater like we used to in our youth, so there is no better way to bond with your teenage grandchildren than taking them to see a horror flick. Here is a list of theaters in Baton Rouge to check out. If your grandchildren are young, check if there are less intimidating Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus, Frankenweenie, E.T., or Little Monsters. What better way to spend an afternoon!
Conclusion
We hope this article inspires you to plan an unforgettable Halloween experience with your grandchildren. These are just several ideas, so we’ll leave it up to your imagination to think of more.
